Cate's Quilt

 Wednesday, May 23, 2012

I have been quilting for about 10 years now and machine embroidery for 6 years. However, with this quilt, it is my first time doing Machine Embroidery Applique. I have been wanting to try this for awhile, but for some reason I was afraid of it. Well I am really glad that I finally got over my fears. I got a sale coupon for some applique embroidery designs by Embroidery Library, so I took advantage of their offer and got some adorable baby animal designs. I was surprised at how easy it was. I followed their tutorial and things went pretty well. The first square actually turned out pretty good.

I typically embroider the four outer squares and the middle square is always the name.

I like to personalize the quilts for the babies I make them for. This way they know they are super special in this world and definitely one of a kind just like the quilt itself. I can only do this though if I have a name, so sometimes I have to wait for the baby to be born first before the quilt can be made. In this case, the baby happens to be 8 months old now and I really need to get this done before she is too big for it! The fabric is just a flannel recieving blanket pack that my sister in law picked out to match Cate's room. I added some complementary colors for the binding and a few fabric squares, the backing and wahla a finished baby keepsake. However, one that hopefully the parents use:) Most of them do from what I am told.

Here are some pics of Baby Cate enjoying her quilt.  Isn't she a "perfect little model"!

It feels so good to have another project out the door and off my "To Do List", which right now is pretty long!  But what crafter doesn't have a long "To Do List"!
